Abstract

The fixed drug erythema is a special variant of toxicodermia characterized by the appearance of post-drug administration skin lesions; diagnosis is primarily clinical, through a detailed medical history with emphasis on the description of drugs used. Within this group of drugs is terbinafine, an antifungal often used to treat minor ailments and for a prolonged period. The main adverse drug reactions are the alteration or loss of taste and appearance compatible with hypersensitivity reactions rash or photosensitivity. We report the case of a patient who presented to Dermatology department of the Hospital Un Canto a la Vida, located in the south of Quito, with an erythematous plaque located in the left thigh with several months of evolution. A detailed history was made with a greater interest in the administration of any medication previously, being positive the use of terbinafine. Different complementary tests were performed and it was determined that the patient had a fixed drug reaction associated with the use of terbinafine. The study of this case is of great interest because it can be a diagnostic challenge for the physician.
